Explore the Svir River further and learn more about it’s ports-of-call.

Kizhi

Russia

The pogost, or small settlement, of Kizhi is located on Kizhi Island, one of the many islands in Lake Onega, in Karelia, Russia. Two unique 18th century wooden churches, the largest being the Church of the Transfiguration, are prominent on the horizon as your Russia river cruise ship nears port. Also look for the octagonal clock tower, also in wood and built in 1862, as well as other architectural masterpieces of the period and region. Shop for some unique souvenirs before leaving this treasure. This rural river cruise port is a very special destination on your journey through Russia.

Mandrogy

Russia

Mandrogy or Mandrogi is a delightful port of call on the Svir River while cruising Russia from Moscow to St. Petersburg. It is an open-air working and living museum on the banks of the Svir River on the site of a former village that was ruined during World War II. Mandrogy is a popular attraction for Russians and foreign visitors and a perfect place to immerse yourself in traditional Russian life. It features colorful reproductions of old houses, traditional craft workshops, souvenir shopping, and even a vodka museum. You may also enjoy one of the traditional Russian Shashlik lunches while in port.

Petrozavodsk

Russia

Before or after your cruise leaves the Svir River in Russia traveling to the East, and heads up Lake Onega towards Kizhi, you may be fortunate enough to be on a cruise that does a port call at Petrozavodsk. Enjoy some neoclassical architecture here with the Round (or oval) Square or the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. See the statues commemorating Peter the Great and Alexander Nevsky.

St. Petersburg

Russia

The Svir River in Russia flows west into Lake Ladoga and finally into the Neva River which enters the Gulf of Finland at St. Petersburg. Russia river cruises cover more than just the Svir and Volga Rivers – they cruise through various lakes and small rivers like the Neva to complete the transit route from Moscow to the historic and cultural center of St. Petersburg. Here you can explore historic treasures like the Hermitage Museum, The Peter & Paul Fortress, Peterhof Palace, The Marinsky Theater, The Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, Pavlovsk Palace, Catherine Palace and much, much more. St Petersburg will definitely be one of your top river cruise destinations ever!

Svirstroy

Russia

Svirstroy is a small village on the banks of the Svir River of Russia just to the west of Mandrogi. Explore Russian artistic treasures at Vepsskaya Bazaar or explore the small town and meet some locals. You may also join an excursion to the nearby Mandrogi outdoor museum and cultural center. Either way, a port of call on the Svir River of Russia in Svirstroy is a look into the unique life of rural Russia and its close relationship with history.
